My Virtual Classroom

Nope.  I can't believe this.  I never would have thought that when we went home on March 13th that we would not be returning to school for the rest of the school year.  I also absolutely cannot believe that we may not be going back to school in the fall.

But, alas.  Here we are.  We are in a place where we need to start facing the truth that August may not look like it ever has before.  In an effort to get a head start on what may be a continuation of the eLearning format from the previous school year, I have started to create a virtual Google Classroom to house resources and interact with the students and staff in my building.  I was able to create this virtual classroom (which is an interactive Google Slide) with the help of a wonderful teacher in my building and a couple of YouTube videos.  This video helped me the most: https://youtu.be/ZvzgaER9BIY . The short version: search for items and furniture on the internet with a transparent background, when you find something that you want to put into your virtual classroom copy and paste into a google slide.

Because I was familiar with Google Slides, there wasn't a big learning curve. However, I will admit that I did spend more than a little time looking for the right furniture to decorate my new classroom. In fact, I spent so much time decorating my classroom, that while I am writing this blogpost there are only 2 resources linked in the actual classroom (insert facepalm).

Here is a link to my classroom:  Virtual Classroom  Going forward, I plan to add more books on the shelves of resources that I am reading for professional development and for entertainment.  I also plan on adding links to PD that I have created and PD from my colleagues.  I am excited about what this classroom will be when I am finished with this version of it.  I say this version because I know that I will periodically change it around, add things, take things out, etc.

Will this replace the love that I have for the current space that I have in my school? A resounding No! However, did it give me something productive to do that will be useful to the students, parents, and teachers in my building if when we continue eLearning? That answer is yes.

What are some ways that you can use this in your classroom?
